Largo, Florida - The Pinellas Aquatics Council (PAC) congratulates The City of Clearwater, Florida, who beat out all others Saturday, August 2, 2008 to become the CHAMPIONS at the First Annual Lifeguard Games, sponsored by the Southeastern Group.
Other teams placing included First Runner Up, The City of Largo, and Second Runner Up University of South Florida at St. Petersburg. The competion included seven events covering essential lifeguarding skills and other relays.
Rob Tuttle, PAC member said "The competition was designed to test the skills of the lifeguards in a fun and interactive enviroment. As much as being about skills, it was about networking and meeting other people who save lives too."
The Games were developed by the Pinellas Aquatics Council at the request of the membership in 2007. Holly Aday, Mark Abdo and Rob Tuttle collaborated on the events. Six lifeguard intructors and instructor trainers from local businesses and municipalities volunteered to judge the events. "Without our volunteers, this event would not have happened" said Tuttle. In all six local municipalities were represented at the Games.
