The 2010 PAC Lifeguard Games are fast approaching. Join us as we gather with local area lifeguard teams and they compete for top honors. The City of Largo will be returning to defend their 2009 Grand Championship but, the 2008 Grand Champion City of Clearwater and upstarts from the City of Lakeland have vowed to spoil their hopes! Are your guards up to the challenge? Together with our sponsor AquaLinc, we invite you to attend the 2010 PAC Lifeguard Games and show off your skills!
General Notes:- All lifeguards are required to wear appropriate uniforms. Men's suits should be "board shorts" and women's suits should be one piece with a cross back.
- Teams must be co-ed and comprised of at least one person from the opposite gender. All events are also co-ed and must have at least one person from the opposite gender participating. Teams may be 5-1, 4-2 or 3-3.(keep in mind that teams of 5-1 will have that 1 person in ALL EVENTS).
- Ribbons and medals will be awarded for each event and team trophies for Grand Champion and runners up.
- Penalty points will be awarded based on event criteria by judges and judges decisions are final.
- Water and snacks will be available throughout the afternoon and a dinner will be provided.
- All participants are currently employed with the listed agency and therefore assumed covered under that agency worker compensation program. In the event of injury, the individual is solely responsible if this should prove to not be the case. All participants, by their participation, hold harmless the Pinellas Aquatics Council, Event Sponsors and the City of Largo. Participants will be required to sign a waiver on the day of the event to participate.
List of Events
- Wet T-Shirt Relay - A relay race of the ages! Starting with the shirt on, use a compact entry and swim to the opposite side using your choice of stoke (dare you to use the elementary backstroke). Exit the water and switch shirts, but keep the shirt right-side out and worn properly. Finish the final transfer for this four length relay with the guard exiting the water unassisted standing with two feet on the deck and one hand raised.
- Rescue Rodeo - Ride your rescue tube to victory. One partner is in the water towing the rescue tube while a second rides the tube cowboy style with sombrero and noodle lasso in hand. A wet and wild ride down and back through the pool starting in the water.
- Inflatable Brick Relay - Four members of your team will be towing the brick above the water while paddling your tube to transfer. If the brick drops, surface dive to the bottom and recover without moving forward. Re-mount the float with the brick and continue. Did we mention that parts of the pool may be up to 17 feet deep! Team members must attempt retrieval at least once. If unable to retrieve the brick they may swim to the starting point and and tag and alternate team member to take their spot.
- Team Treading -All six members are in the pool treading for this one! Everyone must hold the towel and keep it dry while holding on with two hands keeping it above the water. Anyone who lets go of the towel with one or both hands must exit the pool immediately. The remaining members may continue until the towel gets wet. Once the towel is wet the team is out (be careful getting in and splashing before and during the event!).
- Backboard Relay - Start in the water (kicking partner with buttocks against the interior wall) with one partner laying on the backboard up front for paddling and a second high on the first partner's hips for kicking. Partners work together to get the other side where they switch in the water with another group from their team. Careful not to loose your balance and tip. One alternate members may be on each end of the pool assist in the transfers.
- Active Victim Rescue - Four members of each team demonstrate skills and abilities while rescuing a team members in the pool. Rescuers are required to demonstrate all skills including recognition, EMS activation, entries, approaches, contact and recovery. Time ends when second victim is secured at the side of the pool with two hands on the wall.
- Tie Breaker - "IRON MAN FINAL" One team member will be selected from each group for a test of physical fitness. The Iron Man Final will include a one mile run with a climb to recover a flag from the playground on the way, 25 push-ups, 25 sit-ups and 500 yard swim. Clock stops when the participant stands on the deck with two feet and one hand in the air.
